PROCESS

Consultation

The fundamental objective is to understand the client’s desires, expectations, budget and timeline. This is achieved during the initial meeting at our office, the project site, phone or Zoom call.

Proposal for Services

A clear scope of design services is provided to the client.

Conceptual Design

Drawings, sketches, details, and material samples are provided to the client to express the vision for the designed landscape. The deliverables are large format renderings.

Final Plans & Construction Phase

A final set of plans are provided, which are used for the bidding and construction process. We facilitate coordination with the general contractor/builder and landscape contractor who will implement these plans.

Tim Borden

Tim began his professional career in his hometown of Ft. Lauderdale in 1997 working alongside civil engineers, landscape architects and building architects. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2002 in landscape architecture from the University of Florida, Tim was recruited to a design studio in Sarasota where he gained knowledge of the area’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. He primarily worked on larger planned unit developments but eventually fulfilled his desire for creating artistic and meaningful landscapes for individual homeowners by working with several local landscape design firms for nearly a decade. BORDEN Landscape Design was then founded in 2013.

Tim’s design and project management contributions have led to numerous awards received from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), as well as being featured in local publications such as Sarasota Magazine, SRQ Magazine, Home & Design, LUXE and Atomic Ranch Magazines. In the past 10 years, BORDEN Landscape Design has won several design awards for residential landscape design, has transformed Sarasota’s residential landscape and works every day to create spaces people love to call home.

  • We recently purchased a "fixer-upper" in Estero, FL for it's outstanding location and view-- preserve and lake. But the property was outdated Mediterranean-style, terribly overgrown (think jungle) and missing a pool. After meeting with several landscape architects, it was clear that Tim was the solution. Not only does he know his Florida vegetation, he's extremely creative and delivers extra-ordinary designs with unique materials. During the building of our pool, we got many comments from contractors about the unusual and beautiful choice of stone. When the landscape went in, the landscaper actually tried to talk me into some different plants because "I've never heard of some of this stuff; why don't you put in the palms that everybody has!!" Tim has unparalleled creativity.....integrating both hardscape and the softscape stuff...while still remaining pragmatic. Importantly, he stays in touch as the project progresses with suggestions on lighting, alternative materials if having procurement troubles, house paint colors..... We were thrilled that Tim would travel down to the Ft Myers area to consult with us! Thanks to Tim's plan, we have the most beautiful property in the neighborhood.....at least according to the neighbors and their visitors!! Thank you Tim!!!!

  • I hired Borden Landscape Design for a difficult project. I am completely remodeling an old house that a previous owner had attempted to turn "Mediterranean". Mid-century lines were barely evident under the faux arches and tile, and the architect was having a difficult time translating the structure back to a modern style. I knew the exterior, including front entry and large pool courtyard, were crucial to the transformation and that the landscape plan would make a huge difference too. I met with Tim, showed him several photos of houses I liked (that were actually quite different in size and shape than mine), and the very first drawings he offered were exactly what I was trying to achieve. Both his hardscape plan as well as his plantings were absolutely perfect, and he also came up with the design elements the house structure needed to tie everything together.
